When Quality of Care Matters

Policies

Eustis Senior Care (ESC) Assisted Living is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of both our residents and visitors. ESC complies with all requirements of F.S. 408.823.

The Visitation Policy is posted at the Entrances of the Facility and must be agreed to upon entry.  The Visitation Policy for visiting loved ones at the facility is as follows, and follows the same infection control requirements of employees at the facility:

1.       General Policy: Unless the Resident objects to a visit, visits will be permitted in end-of-life situations, if the resident is struggling with the change in environment and lack of in-person support, the resident is making a major medical decision, the resident is experiencing emotional distress or grieving, the resident needs cueing or encouragement to eat or drink, or the resident who used to talk and interact is seldom speaking.  Visitors may be asked to leave or will not be permitted to enter at the request of the resident.

2.       Visitor Behavior: All visitors to the facility are required to follow general rules for appropriate decorum, which encourages visits to be quiet and respectful of other residents and employees and prohibits threatening, disruptive, harassing, or discriminatory behavior.  Visitors unable to maintain appropriate decorum may be asked to leave and/or barred from future visits at the discretion of Facility staff.

  1. Prohibited Items: The Facility provides Limited Mental Health services to its residents. Visitors are not permitted to bring firearms, explosives, fireworks, alcohol, or recreational/non-prescription drugs into the Facility.

  2. Designated Essential Caregiver: Residents may designate an essential caregiver or responsible party who will be permitted visitation for 2 hours on a daily basis.

  3. Posted Policy and Sign-In: This Visitor Policy is posted at designated entry points of the Facility where all visitors must sign in and be screened, without exception, including any designated essential caregiver. Visitors should report and enter the Facility only at designated entry points and not any entrance marked "Resident or Employee Only" or "Not an Entrance." Visitors failing to abide by this sign-in and screening policy will be asked to leave the premises.

  4. Visitation Time: Normal visiting hours of the facility are 9:00AM through 9:00PM, 7 days a week. Visits outside of this time must be requested and approved by the Administrator prior to the initial visit, and will generally be approved, with the resident's approval, for designated essential caregivers or responsible persons and visitors to residents with hospice. Visitors who arrive outside of the normal visiting hours without approval will be denied entry.

  5. Visitor Group Size: Residents are limited to 4 visitors per group per visitation time. Compassionate exceptions may be granted at the discretion of the Administrator but must be requested prior to the Visitation Time.

  6. Visit Length: Visit length is limited to 2 hours per resident per visitor group. Compassionate exceptions may be granted at the discretion of the Administrator but must be requested prior to the Visitation Time.

  7. Visitor Infection Screening: Visitors will be subject to an infection screening prior to entry. This will include:

    • Temperature Screening: If a visitor has a sustained temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, the visit will be rescheduled as the fever may indicate a systemic infection.

    • Symptom Screening: All visitors will submit to a symptom screening. If a visitor has noticeable and disruptive respiratory symptoms, including unexplained or worsening wheezing/hacking cough/shortness of breath, unexplained or worsening rash, unexplained or worsening vomiting, or unexplained or worsening diarrhea/nausea, the visit will be rescheduled until the symptoms are resolved.

  8. Mask Usage: While not required, all visitors are encouraged to use a mask in any communal space at the facility, including hallways, entryways, shared resident rooms, and the dining room or living room. Masks are provided free of charge by the facility. Masks are not required in the Resident room of Residents with fully private accommodations.

  9. Social Distancing: Visitors must respect the personal wishes of residents in the facility regarding physical distance and physical contact.

  10. Resident Wishes: Visitors may be denied entry or asked to leave the premises by objection or request of the Resident.

  11. Safety Coordinator: The Administrator is responsible for the safety of visitors, employees, and residents at the facility. The Administrator, in his or her discretion, may, in good faith, act to preserve the health, safety and well-being of all persons in the facility and request individuals to leave the premises if necessary. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact the Administrator at (352) 449-9386.
